Calotropis gigantea

Common names: Giant Milkweed, Crown Flower, Crown Plant, Giant Calotrope, Swallow-wort , Madar, Aak, Erukku, Rui, Mudar.

Description: Calotropis gigantea is a hardy tropical shrub with large, velvety, grey-green leaves and attractive star-shaped flowers, usually white, lavender, or pale purple. It grows well in hot, dry conditions and is commonly found in wastelands, roadsides, and dry gardens. The plant produces milky latex when damaged.

Germination tips: Sow fresh seeds on the surface or cover very lightly with a thin layer of soil. Use a well-draining sandy or loamy mix and keep it lightly moist, never waterlogged. Maintain temperatures around 25–30°C and provide bright light. Seeds generally germinate within 1–3 weeks. Transplant when seedlings have developed several true leaves.

 Note: The milky latex is toxic and can irritate the skin and eyes, so handle the plant carefully.
