Salvia pratensis is a hardy perennial wildflower native to Europe, admired for its striking spikes of blue to violet flowers that bloom from late spring to summer. It typically grows 30–80 cm tall and is an excellent choice for pollinator gardens, attracting bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

Germination tips:

  • Sow seeds on the surface or cover very lightly (about 1–2 mm) with a well-draining seed-starting mix.
  • Cold stratify seeds for 2–4 weeks at 2–5°C to improve germination.
  • After stratification, maintain a temperature of 18–22°C.
  • Keep the growing medium evenly moist but not waterlogged.
  • Germination usually occurs in 2–4 weeks.
  • Transplant seedlings to a full sun location with well-drained soil once they are large enough to handle.
